published: Oct. 14, 2025, 11:57 a.m.

The Deputy Minister for Transport, Hon. Dorcas Affo-Toffey [MP], has paid a working visit to the National Road Safety Authority (NRSA), a key agency under the Ministry of Transport, as part of efforts to deepen her understanding of the Authority’s operations and challenges.

During the engagement, Hon. Affo-Toffey was briefed on the NRSA’s mandate and its ongoing initiatives to reduce road traffic crashes and fatalities. The Authority emphasized its role as the lead government agency responsible for road safety through regulation, education, enforcement, and public awareness.

Welcoming the Deputy Minister, the Director-General of the NRSA, Abraham Amaliba, Esq., called for the retooling of the Authority to enable it to effectively implement policies and programmes that promote road safety. He lamented the persistent challenge of inadequate funding and logistics, including vehicles, which he said continue to hinder the Authority’s ability to execute its mandate fully.

“The deaths on our roads are increasing, and there is a need for action to be taken to bring the figures down. We need more resources to do this, but we are constrained by resources,” Mr. Amaliba stated.

In her remarks, Hon. Affo-Toffey acknowledged the concerns raised and assured management of the Ministry’s commitment to supporting its work. She emphasized the importance of aligning NRSA’s operations with the government’s broader Reset Agenda, aimed at revitalizing key sectors for national development.

“We all use the roads, and if the roads are not safe, no one is safe. We will do our best to keep people safe on our roads,” the Deputy Minister affirmed.

Hon. Dorcas Affo-Toffey, who also serves as the Member of Parliament for the Jomoro Constituency in the Western Region, was accompanied by a delegation from the Ministry of Transport. Her visit marks a renewed commitment to strengthening institutional collaboration and enhancing road safety outcomes across the country.
